Valentine’s Day is wonderful because we can shut out all of the noise and focus on showing our partner how much we care about them. For some people, it’s just another holiday that Hallmark has commercialized. It can be a sad day for some who aren’t dating around the holiday, but many ladies even gather their girlfriends now for a night out to celebrate their love for martinis ;). This year, my hubby and I did a cute Valentine’s Day shoot, and we both had so much fun! We ventured to Balboa Park in San Diego, and it was such a beautiful backdrop for our photos. I was so happy with the romantic and feminine outfit I decided to wear and how lovely it translated on camera. In honor of this year’s Love Day, I thought I’d show you how you could dress up a tulle skirt, whether it’s for a night out with your girlfriends or a romantic date with your love.
The standout piece in my outfit for this photo shoot is my pink blush tulle skirt. This one is from Space 46, and it is by far a conversation piece by itself. I love a tulle skirt for how flirty and feminine they are. Depending on how you decide to accessorize a tulle skirt, it’s a surprisingly versatile addition to your wardrobe. For this particular photo shoot, I didn’t want to overshadow the skirt, so I tucked in a simple spaghetti strap blouse from Zara with a modern neckline and rich texture. My shoes are by Reed Krakoff, and they are actually the pair that I wore on my wedding day. Lastly, the only accessory I needed was a darling necklace, with a long chain and thick gold tassels. I love how this whole look is captured so well on camera and all of the detail in the skirt shines through because of how dynamic it is.
For some, a tulle skirt may seem intimidating. They tend to be quite full, which gives some the idea that it’ll add too much bulk to their bottom and therefore distort their shape. While it does add volume, you can pair a fitted top to accentuate your waistline. Most tulle skirts will feature a waistband, but if by chance it doesn’t, consider a belt to assist in bringing in that waist.
You can wear a tulle skirt for a night out on the town, a date night with your love, and even as a part of your everyday life. If you keep the rest of your outfit simple and channel any sparkle into your accessories, there is no reason you can’t venture out for a day shopping or run some errands in a tulle skirt! It’s all about your attitude because if you feel comfortable and confident, that’s what others will notice. When wearing a tulle skirt for a night out with the girls, consider tucking in a dressy blouse that is fairly neutral with minimal detail. Pair this look with heels, a statement bib necklace, and a cropped blazer or leather jacket, and no one is going to be able to keep their eyes off of you. This type of look would also work for a date night, but consider adding some more sparkle with a pair of earrings and some dressier heels.
If you pair your tulle skirt with some simpler pieces, it can help tame the extravagant look enough that you can wear it throughout the daytime. Take a button-up cardigan and throw it on with a fitted tank under, and belt it at the waist. Be careful of how long the cardigan is though, because you don’t want it to flare out with the skirt. A cardigan that falls about 2-4 inches from the waistband would do perfectly. You could also pair your tulle skirt with a long sleeve tee, a scarf, and a pair of flats for a breezy, comfortable ensemble. With a little bit of imagination, a tulle skirt can be appropriate for so many occasions, and can do more for your wardrobe than you ever thought before.
I hope you enjoy your Valentine’s Day and let romance and love remain the priority for that special day if you are spending it with someone. If not, surround yourself with people you love and celebrate the day just as well. On your next shopping trip, consider picking up a tulle skirt for a refreshing new piece to add to your new spring wardrobe. I wish you so much love and happiness this weekend, no matter what your plans are!
