One of the best ways to stretch out your wardrobe and make it as versatile as possible is having some accessories that can transform your outfits into a number of looks. Trying to have an outfit for every type of occasion that may come up is impractical and can get expensive. That’s why it’s a great idea to consider what you already have when going out for a shopping trip, so you know that whatever you buy will be worth the money.
I’ve put together a look that you can take from a casual day at work to a happy hour date with your girlfriends, co-workers, or even your partner. I started with a cute chambray button-up top with little polka dots that add some interest to what could be a plain top. It’s a professional style done in a very comfortable fabric, so that your mobility will not be constricted no matter how much you move throughout your work day. I also wore some great green trousers that are lightweight and less structured, so again, I’m comfortable throughout my work day. You could definitely tuck this top in if your workplace requires you to, but I like the relaxed feeling of these two pieces together.
For my accessories, I chose a bright red color for my handbag to play up the muted colors of my outfit. Since it’s Spring, it’s great to work in at least one pop of saturated color to your outfit to complement the bright colors of the season. I went with some nude studded flat sandals for a dose of personality. They work well with the nude polka dots on the top and make them stand out. If you can’t wear sandals in your workplace, a nude flat would work as well. For jewelry, I added simple pieces such as a long tassel necklace and a few rings that complement the gold hardware in the rest of my accessories.
Taking this ensemble and transforming it into a night time look was a cinch. I grabbed an edgy leather jacket for some glam. A jacket can definitely change an outfit in a pinch but it’s also practical in case it gets a little bit chilly at night. I also switched out my red handbag for a simple and classic Chanel quilted bag with a chain link strap. Since this look incorporates flats for the day, I went with a strappy heeled sandal for night. Lastly, I threw my hair into a messy bun and made my eye makeup a little darker. With these couple of tweaks, I was able to take a simple and casual work look to an edgy and effortless night time look.
