I went to Nordstrom to purchase the famous Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, as I’ve heard so many positive things about this product. When I got to the makeup counter, I also noticed that YSL came out with a new foundation called the YSL Youth Liberator, which has an anti-aging serum and SPF 20. Which one was I going to pick?! They both seemed like they would have a lot of benefits, and I wasn’t sure which would be better on my skin. So I thought it would be best to purchase both, and try them out to see which designer foundation I would like more on my skin.
The YSL foundation has a beautiful finish on the skin; it helps you achieve that dewy look that’s so desired right now without unwanted shine. And oh my goodness, does it ever smell good! I can’t tell you enough how amazing this foundation smells. Again, the dewy finish doesn’t leave an oily residue; instead, it gives off a youthful glow that makes your face look fresh and healthy. My color was the Bd50. It’s no surprise, as the foundation was built with skin tightening agents and twenty-four hour hydration properties. The Forever Youth Liberator Serum contained in this foundation has even won awards! The YSL foundation offers a medium to full coverage, so of course you can build on the coverage to achieve what you need without that unwanted cake-y effect.
The anti-aging serum combined with SPF 20 are huge perks to this foundation because you know that not only are you getting great coverage for your skin, you’re also protecting it from future damage. A key component to foundation that’s important to look for is SPF. The serum can help counteract some of the existing damage you may have, while the SPF ensures you don’t keep contributing to damage while you’re out having fun in the sun.
The downside to this foundation is that there is not a lot of color selections, which is super important when it comes to foundation. As much as I tried, I couldn’t find a color that matched my skin perfectly. Even the yellow undertones colors have a bit of pink in them, which I didn’t like and made finding the right color for me even harder. The price point for the YSL foundation is quite high as well at $70, but of course, it is made under a designer label.
As I said before, I originally went into Nordstrom to find the Giorgio Armani foundation, and I am so glad I did! This foundation is the bomb.com. All the buzz around this foundation is right on point because as soon as I tried it, I fell in love and nothing could compare. The color was on point and the coverage is spectacular! Personally, I am a big fan of foundations that feel very light on the skin and produce a natural complexion. I’m very happy if I can apply one layer of foundation during the day and feel like my skin can still breathe. At night, I want to be able to build coverage for a flawless finish perfect for photos. This foundation photographs beautifully and I think it creates a finish that looks natural, just like it’s bare, perfect skin. This can be attributed to Armani’s Micro-fil technology, which is an exclusive combination of materials that lead to easy application. This technology forms little crystals that are supposed to look just like skin once applied to the face.
The color selection for the Giorgio Armani foundation is much more vast, so you don’t have to worry about mixing colors to match your skin tone. Mine was the 5.75 shade. There is that coveted glow factor in this foundation, which is $62, as well, creating a youthful and fresh finish. Another perk; the formula is perfect for sensitive skin. I did not break out after trying this foundation at all! The only downside that I could find to this foundation, honestly, is that it doesn’t contain SPF. However, you could always purchase a moisturizer with SPF that you incorporate into your makeup routine. It’s an oil-free product, so you don’t have to worry about an oily complexion when you combine it with moisturizer.
There were a lot of great things about both foundations, and I am so happy I was able to try them both. If I had to choose only one though, I would have to pick the Giorgio Armani. There were just so many positives to it; I love the way it makes my skin look and feel! You can really achieve that naked, natural look which is what you truly want from a foundation, while getting the coverage you need for a perfect base to your favorite makeup looks!
Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried any of these foundations or if you have a favorite I should try next.
