I’m such a huge fan of Urban Decay and their coveted palettes, which is why I’m so excited to share with you the newest and latest addition to the NAKED family: the Urban Decay NAKED SMOKY palette. I’ve been keeping this a secret for way too long, but I can finally reveal the big surprise! I can already tell that this palette is super sexy and edgy just by looking at the packaging, which I love love love. Be prepared to see the Naked SMOKY palette in many of my future makeup tutorials!
The naked SMOKY palette has 12 different colors, with a combination of matte, shimmers, and satin finishes. I can tell they put a lot of thought into the color selections; most of the shadows are obviously dark for a true smokey eye, but there’s a variety of colors such as purple and brown which makes it exciting and less boring. There’s a good balance between the number of mattes and shimmers, especially the highlight colors and the transitional colors for the crease. The versatility of this palette is great, in that you can create tons of different and unique looks.
Besides the beautiful shadows, the thing I like most about this palette is the packaging. The exterior is made out of plastic, and has this smoke design as the base. There’s a magnetic clasp so it closes securely; I won’t have to worry about it opening randomly in my purse! Similar to the previous NAKEDs, this one also includes a double-ended brush. The great thing about this brush is that one side is a pencil brush. You can use it to smudge out the bottom lash line to really emphasize the makeup look. Also, included in this palette is a step-by-step guide to creating Urban Decay’s signature looks. If you’re a beginner with makeup, or this is your first naked palette, the guide is extremely practical and can help you improve your skills. Remember: practice makes perfect!
Out of all the shadows, my favorite color would have to be SMOLDER, which is a deep plum color. SMOLDER is perfect as an all-over lid color, and adding the color BLACK MARKET, a gun-metal grey, to add some definition would look perfect for a night out! I love a shimmer highlight, so this gorgeous champagne-pink color called HIGH would be great for under the brows. For more on how to create a smokey eye, check out my latest makeup tutorial here!
There’s such a wide range of colors you can use; you can definitely create a day-to-night look with just this one palette. The warmer colors are perfect for an everyday look, giving a softer appearance. You can then amp up your look for the night time using the darker, cooler shadows. I’d definitely recommend this for anyone who wants to push boundaries and create daring makeup looks. Who doesn’t want to rock a sexy smokey eye?
