Where did the summer go? It seems like just yesterday we were dusting off our bikinis and heading to the beach for the first time in a year. Now every third television commercial is back-to-school themed and shops are putting out their fall inventory! It’s been a couple of minutes since I’ve been in school, but I remember how monumental your first day outfit can be. What I’d like to share with my subbies (before I show you some fun and totally affordable outfit inspiration) is that fashion and style are meant to be fun and self-fulfilling; it’s about wearing what YOU love and what speaks to YOU and dressing for YOURSELF!
If you’re looking to incorporate some fall trends in your back to school wardrobe and don’t know where to begin, I’ve put two looks together with some key pieces that’ll take you through the entire school year. I’ve picked mostly affordable options as examples, with a couple of investment pieces, to show you how to mix aesthetics and show you that style is totally possible with any budget.
Do you remember when the goth look used to be a thing? Cringe-worthy, I know, but fashion has come a long way in terms of incorporating what’s so cool about the dark and bad into a whole edgy chic idea. Things are more refined with those little details that take it up a notch and make you look classy, with a hint of bad girl. Right now, it’s all about dark colors like black, heather and salt and pepper grays, and tamer browns. A leather jacket, real or faux, can instantly boost even the most feminine of outfits, and you absolutely need to have one for its versatility. You may spend a little more money on one, but it’ll last you for years and pay off in winks from cute guys and stares from onlookers.
The black bootie is also coming back huge in shoe trends, and those can take you through so many outfits! Statement backpacks are also very trendy right now, and it’s so easy to find an affordable one that will make a statement. Layer on dainty chains and pendants in a creative way; check out local vintage or second-hand shops to find cheap options.
Now to the opposite end of the spectrum; the typical girly-girl look is super cute right now as well. Think about adding layering pieces to those dainty little summer dresses to make your wardrobe carry you through more than one season. Re-imagining what you already have in your wardrobe by adding some current trends is the most affordable way to redefine your style each season. Throw on a boyfriend style cardigan to not only keep you warm but in style. Look for backpacks in sweet rosy and pink shades, which seem to be the new neutral this year. A punch of color in your footwear, like these stunning tie up bright red flats, show your playful side with your interesting mix of shades. Speaking of shades; round lenses are all the rage right now! They are alternative, so different, and a complete change from the oversized lenses we are so used to seeing. Again, add a piece of dainty jewelry for a little bit of sparkle, and you’re done.
These looks are so simple to obtain and I promise you that you can achieve them on any budget. School can be expensive, but your style doesn’t have to be! When you have a couple of extra bucks, investment pieces like a leather jacket or a great pair of boots will take you through so many years that it’ll pay off for you.
Have you guys started school yet, and where do you go? I’d love to know where you guys come from!
