Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just have a go-to makeup look that takes you about five minutes or less, with products you know will stay on your face throughout the long work day that will just work for EVERYTHING, especially in the office? Well… I’m here to help! Finding the perfect everyday, office-appropriate makeup look that doesn’t take too much time can be difficult. Depending on your work setting, you may even have particular restrictions about makeup. Don’t get discouraged though; even if you have to tone it down just a little, there’s no reason why you can’t still look and feel beautiful while being professional and elegant.
To start, grab your favorite foundation and apply to your skin. Make sure you also apply concealer to cover those dark circles from your long days at work! I used the Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation and Nars Concealer in Custard.
To give my face some color and dimension, I lightly brushed Benefit’s Hula bronzer under my cheek bones and around the temples of my face. I also added a bit of blush to bring my complexion to life. Now on to the fun! I applied a light brown shadow on my entire eyelids; stick to a neutral eyeshadow color, whether it’s browns or pinks, to keep the look professional. My eyes are lined with the Mary Kay Eyeliner in MK Deep Brown for a subtle addition of color around my eyes. If you love eyeliner, using a brown can be a softer approach to a lined eye that is suitable for work; it’s definitely less harsh and easier to blend-in than your typical black eyeliner. What’s great about this liner is creamy texture which helps with the blending step. Once you apply the liner, use a straight brush to create a subtle cat eye that will elongate your eyes, giving it the illusion of having bigger eyes. Finish the look with several coats of mascara and you’re done with the eyes. A subtle winged eyeliner is so trendy, and if done right, can really open your eye in case they’re a little bit tired on an early day at the office.
I went a little bit bolder with my lips, using a deep mauve color that complements the neutral tones I used in the rest of the look. I first used the Mary Kay lip liner in Spiced Tea to line then filled my lips entirely. Next I used the City Modern Velvet Lip Créme in Naturally Chic to add moisture and give it the bold color I wanted.
For my nails, I went with a striking medium grey. Gallery Gray is such a chic option for those who like dark nails, but don’t feel comfortable with black. It’s luscious, it’s pigmented, and it’s a cool neutral. I like Mary Kay’s nail lacquer because it goes on smooth with a nice shiny finish. Not only that, but once you take it off, your nails look healthier and more nourished than with most nail polishes.
There’s no reason why you can’t be a little bit playful when applying makeup for the professional work setting; it’s all about being creative and finding colors or textures that play up your personality.
