Last month, I had the pleasure of being in New York to team up with Garnier on a fabulous shoot that documents how to create different hairstyles including my personal favorite, the low bun, which I will be showing you how to achieve! I love a low bun for how simple it is to create when you have a busy day ahead and want to look chic without spending a lot of time on your hair, so I created a step-by-step how-to for the perfect low bun! I can also see this hairstyle taking you from work to drinks with the girls, and is a simple ‘do for a weekend full of errands and events.
The first thing you want to do is take just a small dab of Garnier Sleek & Shine Smoothing Milk and run it through dry, smooth hair. Use a paddle brush to brush hair back toward your neck. Helpful tip: take some hairspray and spray it on your brush before brushing for extra smoothness.
Once your hair is smooth, you want to split it into two sections from the center to each side. Once your hair looks like two little pigtails, take one side and clip it to keep the separation
Let’s make this bun a little bit more fun! We’re going to add two braids next. Starting with one side, create a braid from the front to the back, and tie it in a ponytail once you’re done. Do the same on the other side.
Once your braids are complete, you’re going to overlap them. Take the braids and cross them over each other; depending on how long your hair is, you may need to overlap them a couple of times. I only have to do it once because my hair is so short. Once you’ve overlapped your braids, tuck in the ends and secure them with a bobby pin. This is your “bun!”
You want to make sure you lock in your braids, so you’ll want to grab your Garnier Sheer Set Hairspray and spray it over your hair. This will also help you smooth out any straggly hairs that are trying to escape the braids if your hair is short or layered without making it stiff or sticky.
Finally, if you have little baby hairs like I do and want them to stay back, take a spooly or clean mascara wand, spray a little bit of Sheer Set Hairspray on it, and brush them back. The 48 hour hold of the hairspray will keep those babies in place. Lastly, if you are using this easy hairstyle to go out somewhere, you can add a little sparkly pin on it.
I hope you enjoy this simple yet beautiful hairstyle that you can keep in your back pocket for those lazy days, or days where you want to look polished but don’t have a lot of time. Even if your hair is a little bit dirty, this style works well!
