The world is OBSESSED with French beauty products, and I am no exception. How do French women seem to have such vibrant, smooth skin? I wanted to find out for myself, so when I was in Paris, I made sure to stop by a French pharmacy to see what beauty treasures I could find to achieve that “je ne sais quoi” French look. Lucky for you, the products I picked up are also available in the states! I’ve linked them all below in case you want to check them out for yourself.
So KB and I took a walk to a lovely French pharmacy that was near the hotel where we were staying. We lucked out because the woman working there was so lovely and knowledgeable. She recommended some great products and helped me with my purchases. She also gave me some great beauty tips to keep my skin clear.
Some of the tips she gave me included something I have always known and I ALWAYS try to share with you guys; make sure you moisturize often and wear sunscreen. She also stressed the importance of eating well, drinking lots of water, and avoiding smoking. Another interesting tip she had for me was that if you eat meat, avoid fried or overcooked meat as that can damage the look of your skin over time.
I bet you guys are curious to know what I bought, so now on to the haul!
Oxygene Forte Natural Cholorophyll
One of my favorite things that I picked up was a bottle of Oxygene Forte Natural Cholorophyll. Chlorophyll helps balance the acid in your body to make it more alkaline, rather than acidic. 10 drops of this plant based wonder into your water every morning before breakfast can help give you a boost of energy, detox your body, and can even promote weight loss. You want your body to be in a nourished, balanced state, because that will translate into the appearance of your skin.
SkinCeuticals Daily Moisturizer
I’ve actually used this moisturizer before on recommendation from my dermatologist. I was happy to hear that a French chemist recommended it as well! This moisturizer is great for acne prone skin because it contains lots of beneficial skin ingredients like Vitamin E and algae extracts. It’s also lightweight so you don’t get that heavy feeling after you apply it.
Avene Cold Cream Lip Cream
This is a great lip balm. If you have dry, chapped lips, they will thank you because this product is strong enough to give you moisturizing benefits for up to 8 hours. I think you should always have a hydrating lip balm with you, especially on long haul flights, because your skin can get very dehydrated from airplane air.
This product is a Parisian cult classic. This gentle makeup remover is great to use as a daily makeup remover and it’s one of my personal favorites. The cucumber extract is key, as it helps to soothe your skin while removing stubborn makeup. You can use this as a makeup remover and/or a hydrating toner, which is a nice bonus!
Biotherm Homme AquaPower D-Sensitive Daily Moisturizer
I picked this up for KB to help him with his sensitive skin. This moisturizer is particularly great for men who shave because there is no alcohol in it, so it won’t sting or irritate a freshly shaven face. There’s also some calcium in it which helps protect the skin’s barrier function. If your man complains about the tingle and the tightness of his aftershave or his moisturizer, hand him this and he will no longer feel uncomfortable after a shave.
Nuxe Reve de Meil
This matte balm is really awesome because it helps hydrate your lips yet won’t change the formula of your lipstick if you use it under or on top of your favorite shade. I recommend that you make this a part of your makeup arsenal especially if you use matte or liquid lipsticks.
La Roche-Posay 24 Hour Deodorant
I know a lot of people worry about the aluminum and parabens that are in most of our deodorants, so I wanted to share this one with you because it has none of that. It’s especially great for sensitive skin because of its pure ingredients, and is said to keep odor away for 24 hours.
This one is a mouthful but it’s actually a concoction that helps reduce nausea and sickness. If you’re one who gets nauseous on a flight, skip the rescue remedy and opt for this. It’s a carry on must have! It can also help with body aches, headaches, fevers, chills, and fatigue.
How many of you have allergies that are flaring up now that it’s summer? This salt water cleanse works really well to take away the irritation and clear up any congestion.
Le Crayon Magic by Womanke Paris
I picked up an brown eyeliner in the color Choco e’toile on a whim. It ended up being fairly dry and not super pigmented, with little flecks of glitter that actually ended up burning my eyes. I wanted to mention it though because I bought a red lip pencil by the same brand and really liked it! In fact, I used it in my current Get Ready With Me in Paris tutorial.
I know that was a lot of products to read about, but a French pharmacy is just such a haven of treasures that I really wanted to share everything I got with you! Let me know if you’ve ever visited a French pharmacy and what products you picked up and loved.
