As I’m sure you guys know, I love a dark, bold lip. (Check out my recent video on it here!) While I was at NYFW, I saw so many amazing lip colors that I can’t wait to try out. Each one was so unique, so I thought I’d share some tips for how to create your own bold lip color using products that you already have! I love each of these DIY lipstick tips because you can create so many shades from each combination. By using what you already own, you can save money and get new lipsticks!
1. Mix brown eyeliner with a light colored gloss or balm for a new chocolate brown color.
One of my favorite ways to create a DIY lipstick is with other beauty products! Fill in your lips with brown eyeliner (just like you would with lip liner!) and add a coat of nude gloss or barely-there lip balm for a high-impact look.
2. Layer red lipstick with a brown or black gel eyeliner for a rich, dark red.
Need a dark red lip color in a pinch? Apply red lipstick and layer black or brown gel eyeliner directly on top. Add as much or as little of the gel eyeliner as needed to create your desired shade!
3. Blend two colors that you already own for a unique color.
I use this DIY lipstick hack all the time and it’s a favorite with makeup artists! You can create such a wide array of shades just from lip colors that you already have in your collection. I like to soften burgundy with a nude lipstick, or add another dimension to a deep red with bright pink.
4. Mix red lipstick with a dark, non-shimmery eye shadow to deepen and intensify the color.
Apply red lipstick and pat eye shadow on lips. You can build color to be as dark or as subtle as you like! For this hack, you should start with a deep red with bluish undertones.
5. Pat eye shadow on top of a layer of Vaseline for a new shade.
This tip is cool because there are so many colors you can use! I prefer to use a darker color for a more dramatic effect, but you can really use whatever you like. Next on my list to try is a light dusting of gold shimmer.
6. Layer red lip liner with a blue eyeliner for a unique purple shade.
Since I don’t wear purple lip color often, I think this is one of the easiest ways to get the color you want without buying a new lipstick. Fill in your lips with red liner and add the blue eyeliner on top for an intense purple color.
