Are you ready for fall? I love summer, but I’m excited to try out some new fall looks! This week I’m going to New York Fashion Week, so it’s the perfect time to get ready for colder weather and try some new fall trends. Here I’ll share my best tips for how to seamlessly transition your wardrobe and beauty routine from summer to fall. How you switch up your look will depend on where you live, but with a few key swaps, you can be perfectly fall-ready. I like to mix summer and fall trends, then add a few key pieces. These are my favorite ways to go from one season to the next!
- Wear a jacket or sweater over your summer dress.
Light, flowy dresses are so cool with a black leather motorcycle jacket or a heavy structured coat! I like to wear mine thrown over my shoulders—it’s an effortless “off duty” look! If it’s already cold where you live, you can also add tights under any skirt or dress.
- Switch to a luminizing foundation.
A foundation with a luminizing formula will add a bit of glow to your face. I like to change from a matte foundation to one that will add a bit more dimension, especially as my summer tan fades.
- Swap floral fragrance for a more sultry scent.
Fresh floral perfumes are perfect for summer days where you spend a lot of time outside, but I like to switch to a warmer, more decadent scent as the season changes. This is such an easy way to feel fall-ready!
- Change from summery sandals to cute ankle boots.
One of the easiest ways to update your look from summer to fall is by wearing ankle boots! I like to wear mine with a dress for an edgier vibe. Black ankle boots are incredibly versatile and they look amazing with almost any outfit!
- Skip peachy undertones for cool neutral makeup.
Peachy hues are great to complement the warmness of summer, but cool neutrals are best for fall. Look for neutrals that have a slightly bluish tint, they will make your teeth and eyes look whiter!
- Go for darker colors.
This applies to both makeup and your fall wardrobe! I trade bright lipsticks and eye shadows for richer plums and burgundy. I do the same when choosing outfits for fall, opting for black, deep brown, and gray in place of lighter colors. This is an easy step regardless of climate. Even though it may not cool down until November here in LA, I can wear a black dress and a dark lip color and be on-trend!
- Focus on accessories.
Beach-ready straw totes were so popular this past season, but they might look a bit out of place in the next few months. Swap your summer carryall out for a leather bag in a rich dark color. A small black or brown cross-body bag is perfect! Fall is also the perfect time to wear scarves and wraps, not only are they warm but also they look effortlessly chic!
