This blog post is a collection of all of the photos from this series so far, I hope that through Sundays With Sona we can get to know each other better, so make sure to share one fact about yourself in the comments below. For future posts, I’ll chose the most popular topic from Sundays With Sona and elaborate on it so you can read the full story and not just a short caption.
1. Moving From Armenia to California
I was born and raised in Armenia then moved to California with my family at the age of 12. I had a lot of struggles trying to fit in when we first moved here. In fact, my first week in middle school, I failed my English exam and was told by my teacher that I would end up washing dishes at a restaurant. I cried for a week begging my mom to send me back home. Thankfully I overcame it all with the help and support of my family and friends. To my seventh grade English teacher… Where you at now ya bish?!
2. How My Career Started
Everyone always asks me how my career started, so in this Sundays with Sona I’ll chat a bit about that. My love for beauty started when I was a little girl visiting my mom at the salon. She was a hairdresser and I would run back to the only room in the salon that offered facials and makeup. I’d sit there for hours watching the lady transform people’s skin. That’s when I knew I wanted to become a makeup artist. After being a confused young adult, I decided to follow my passion for makeup and pursue a career in beauty. I went to MUD after college and began my career as a makeup artist. I started at MAC Cosmetics which is where I gained most of my experience and eight months later I made the switch to a freelance artist. I quickly learned and I thrived as an entrepreneur! Then YouTube came along, I fell in love with filming and editing videos. It was so therapeutic for me… I loved it so much that I quickly realized I didn’t have a social life. I had a lot less time to hang out with my friends so I lost the ones who didn’t understand my passion and dedication for my job. I look back now and I’m so glad that I followed my dreams and did what made me happy!
3. My Acne Struggles
In this Sundays With Sona post, I decided to chat about my acne struggles. I’ve made several videos about it but it’s still the number one question you guys have for me. My acne started when I was eighteen years old, and I tried everything to clear my skin. I went to every doctor and esthetician I could find, but nothing worked! I had really bad acne for about three to four years. Finally, after taking strong medication for six months I was able to clear my skin. Looking back, I wish I left my skin alone and didn’t go to so many places. I was on medication for a long time which ended up f***ing up my liver and other organs in my body. I’m no doctor, but from my experience, If you’re going through a similar situation try to stick to a simple routine and don’t take so much medication like I did. In the long run, it’ll catch up with you. Don’t get discouraged if you’ve got acne and remember “this too shall pass”!
4. How KB and I Became A Couple
Five years ago from this Sundays With Sona post, KB asked me on a date while he was still living in San Diego. He took me to Yamashiro in Hollywood because he knew I loved Sushi, and we talked for hours! At the time, he was doing Aerospace Engineering and I was a Freelance makeup artist. After a two year long distance relationship he asked me to marry him. Of course I said YES and the rest is on Instagram! ;)
5. My New Channel Trailer
I updated my channel trailer on YouTube and wanted to share it with you guys! YouTube has made so many of my dreams come true and none of it would have been possible without your love and support. I’m forever grateful for the community we’ve built together. I love each and everyone of you so much and appreciate all your support through the years. If you’re passionate about something, I encourage you to take at least one step every day to make your dreams come true. To me being happy is the most important thing, which is why I never followed a career I wasn’t passionate about. When I first started a career in makeup, people criticized it and my answer was that I’d rather make less money but be happy than make more money and be miserable 8 hours a day. Surround yourselves with positive like-minded people and if somebody doubts what you do, keep your distance and keep moving forward so that one day you can prove them wrong.
6. Starting Pérsona Cosmetics
This week, I wanted to chat about my journey of starting Pérsona Cosmetics. I started a cosmetics line in November of 2016 with the help of my hubby KB and a small team of amazing people. Creating a makeup line has always been my ultimate dream, I started writing down my vision and what I wanted out of Pérsona Cosmetics five years ago. I knew I wanted to start with color cosmetics first because that’s what excites me the most. For my first product, I wanted a kick ass neutral eyeshadow palette that would be compact enough for the girl on the go. I also wanted a versatile palette that could be used for day or night looks. It took over a year to perfect the formula and the color selection, but after a lot of hard work and long hours, the Identity Palette was born! The overwhelming response from my followers and fellow bloggers has been the most rewarding feeling thus far. Hearing your love for this first product we created is something I cannot put into words. I will continue to work hard and create the best products I can for my audience and all the beauty lovers out there! I’m forever grateful for all of your support in this new adventure.
