With the weekend just around the corner, I can’t think of a better combination than good movies, wine, and your best friends. Lately, I’ve been loving staying in! I always feel so cozy when the weather starts to cool down around fall. It makes me just want to curl up with a blanket and snacks! So for those of you out there who feel the same way, I decided to write the perfect list of girl’s night in movies that’ll make you laugh and cry with your girlfriends.
1. Wonder Woman
If you love badass women, this is the action film that you’ve been looking for. Wonder Woman is based off of the famous comic book Amazonian princess. It highlights the strength and heart of the character, Diana Prince, in this beautifully shot film. With only six percent of feature film directors being female, I love that Patty Jenkins showed men exactly what can happen when you let women shine. This movie is perfect for the group of girls that are in the mood to feel empowered! With a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, you know you’re in for a treat.
Juno was a surprising hit that came out in the 2000s! It centers around the topic of teenage pregnancy and has a surprisingly fresh take on the subject. The dialogue is amazing, Diablo Cody deservedly won Best Screenplay at the Oscars that year. The indie darling packs so much charm and wit, it’ll keep you laughing even long after you’re done watching! It’s heartwarming, touching, hilarious, and all around brilliant.
3. Bad Moms
This film was made for a girl’s night in! The group of girls in this movie are hilarious, you should expect to laugh so hard you’ll cry. Every woman can relate- regardless of age or if you’re a mom or not. Sometimes you want to forget all of your responsibilities and live like you’re young again, so if you can’t actually ignore your responsibilities IRL, at least you can live vicariously through the main characters!
4. The Final Girls
I really wanted to add a scary movie to this list, but I wanted to make sure it was one that everyone can enjoy. I personally tend to stay away from horror movies, but The Final Girls is so unique! This film deconstructs the classic slasher movies that we all know, but have a love/hate relationship with. It’s thrilling enough to be a fun watch with the girls, but since it’s a satire, it’s not too scary. This movie is thrilling and has genuine emotion that I think anybody will love! I highly recommend this if you’re in for a nostalgic, 80’s style scare. ;) It’s one of the best movies for a girls night in!
5. Friends With Benefits
I think I can speak for most women when I say that Justin Timberlake is the ultimate 90s heart-throb! JT and Mila Kunis are literally a match made in heaven in this romantic comedy. This movie is so entertaining and lightheartedly makes fun of the normal cliches in rom-coms, which is so refreshing! Woody Harrelson is such a standout actor in the film, and the ‘Closing Time’ scene will forever warm my heart! If you decide to watch Friends With Benefits, it will definitely give you and your girls a good laugh this weekend.
I am such a sucker for musicals, but this one is my favorite by far! It’s such a good movie to watch with your girls because the songs and choreography are so much fun! Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger did an amazing job acting in these roles, and the female empowerment vibes are so strong. Regardless of if you’re a fan of musicals or not, this is definitely one to watch!
7. My Best Friends Wedding
Last but definitely not least, My Best Friend’s Wedding is my favorite movie ever! I always experience such a range of emotions while watching this. It’s considered by many as one of the best and classic romantic comedy films of all time! I love Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz, and the storyline of falling in love with your best friend always makes me gush. I’ve been secretly wishing for a sequel since I first saw it. (Come on, Julia! Make it happen!) This is hands down the best movie for girls night!
I hope you enjoyed my movie picks for the perfect girl’s night in! What’s your favorite chick flick of all time?
