5 Easy Lipstick Hacks Every Girl Should Know

Beauty, makeup, Tips
Simply Sona red lip makeup look fuller lips

So thanks to Kylie Jenner and the new wave of matte lipsticks, all a girl needs is a striking, colorful lip with a little bit of mascara to modernize her makeup look. Dark purples and muted neutrals can work for so many girls, but can also bring out the dryness of your lips, and are a little bit more difficult to apply if you don’t take care of your lips. You might see lots of photos while browsing Pinterest or your favorite beauty blogs and think that you can never make your lips look that soft and luscious, but I’m here to tell you that’s not true! Here are 5 lipstick hacks every girl should know to care for and maintain a perfect pout.

1. Staying Hydrated

The best way to keep your lips staying full and hydrated is to drink a ton of water. Here’s a hack for staying even more hydrated; make sure you eat or drink 3-4 cucumbers and drink coconut water. You can juice 3 cucumbers and mix it with some coconut water, and this will actually help you retain the hydration more than just water. Plus, cucumber water is delicious and is so very refreshing!

2. Scrub Your Lips

Similar to washing your face and having to exfoliate weekly, your lips require the same maintenance. My hack is to create your own lip scrub that is all natural and organic with only two simple ingredients; brown sugar and olive oil. You’ll only need one teaspoon of each and you’ll be ready to start scrubbin’ away! Apply this mixture to a naked lip and rinse well after letting it settle in.

3. Moisturize Your Lips

You should be moisturizing your lips regularly, just like your face. This is where a good lip balm can come into play. However, for a deeper moisturizing to really bring out the softness of your lips, my lipstick hack involves AquaPhor or Vaseline! Rub these on your lips and your pout will be silky smooth. Another great tip: make sure your fave lip balm for on the go has SPF in it; your lips can sunburn too!

Essential oils are replacing so many mainstream products and for good reason; they are all natural and have a more concentrated benefit for us. My personal favorite is the Hourglass Lip Oil. For softer lips, apply peppermint oil directly to your lips or mix it with your lip balm. You know that tingle you get in your lips when you use a plumping lip gloss? Peppermint is the reason, and using the oil alone will give that plumping effect just as well, plus give you a little extra hydration.

5. The Perfect Red Lip Stains & Lipsticks

My last lipstick hack is for when you’re painting the town (and your lips) red on a fabulous night out! If you want a long lasting lip that’ll survive most of the night without having to reapply every five minutes, I recommend a lip stain. They offer great color, and if you have a few sips of a cocktail, it looks just as good and it stays on!  If you have a favorite red lipstick that doesn’t last all night, apply a similar color lip stain first, then your favorite color on top.  For a night out on the town with my girls, some of my favorite lipsticks are YSL 13 and L’oreal Paris 403.

So those are my 5 lipstick hacks every girl should know that I hope you consider when you’re completing your look with a great lipstick! Let me know what type of lipstick you’re loving lately, and if you have any more hacks to add to my list!
