6 Things You Don’t Need In Your Makeup Bag

Beauty
Makeup Bag Beauty Essentials.

We always talk about what you should have in your makeup arsenal, and what is worth spending the money on. But in the spirit of Spring cleaning, I thought we should talk about what you DON’T need and what everyday makeup bag beauty essentials are must haves. This will be especially handy if you’re in a rush or just like to keep your beauty routine quick and simple. So here are six things you don’t necessarily need in your everyday makeup bag.

1. Eyeshadow Primer

I feel like having an eyeshadow primer in your makeup bag is just taking up extra space. Your concealer can do the job of the primer easily. All you have to do is apply it with your fingers on your eyelids and set it with your translucent powder. The Mac Pro Longwear  concealer works well. I also love the NARS Radiant Creamy concealer for every day use.

2. Transitional Color

I love using transitional colors on my eyes to add dimension, but you can use your bronzer to achieve the same look. I actually think using a bronzer creates a really natural finish and blends in nicely with my skin. I think you can try this too and you’ll notice a much more natural blending process.

3. Under Eye Corrector

I know you’re probably thinking “But my dark circles!” It’s okay – you can use a lipstick that’s a similar color! Dab some lippie on your ring finger and apply it to your dark circles, and go over it with your concealer. I promise you this works.

4. Eyeliner

I definitely don’t think you need a liner unless you prefer to have that defined line every day. An eyeshadow can help you achieve a lot of great looks, like a smokey eye, a light cat eye, or a smudged, grungy look. I think using a shadow gives a natural finish that really helps the eyes stand out.

5. Setting Spray

You can keep a setting spray in your makeup bag if you’re going somewhere special, but you don’t need it every day. Instead be sure to use a primer before your foundation and then set your foundation with a setting powder. You’ll get better results this way than using a setting spray. Your makeup will be locked in for the day and will stay in place.

6. Blush

Lastly, I don’t think you need a blush in your makeup bag because you can add color to your face with lipstick or bronzer. You can dab a little bit of lipstick on the apples of your cheeks for that rosy effect, or stick with your bronzer for a golden glow.

I hope you enjoyed learning how to condense your makeup bag a little bit and what everyday beauty essentials you should have. Also, let me know what the one thing you HAVE to have in your makeup bag everyday is!

My one everyday essential is an eyeliner! My blue eyeliner is something all my friends recognise me for, without that I’m lost.

    Lipstick! It does wonders!

  • ReplyZhastineJune 8, 2016 at 8:41 am

For me that one thing I need would be a concealer, but I don’t think I could leave the house without putting on some eyebrow pencil and mascara as well.

I get so excited when I see you post ? this is so helpful, I’m traveling out of the country for the first time this month & don’t want to bring my giant makeup bag, & I didn’t even think of some of these things! my essential is hard to choose. its a close match between concealer and a brow pencil!

  • ReplyCameronJune 8, 2016 at 9:46 am

If I could only wear one product it would be highlighter because it helps me glow even when I am not wearing any makeup!

  • ReplyEwelinaJune 8, 2016 at 9:57 am

My one thing, especially in the summer months, is my Josie Maran argan color stick. Dab on the cheeks, lips and I’ve even used it on my eyes. While I’m at it, add some mascara and voilà-this mamma of three looks but together in under 3 min.

Blush is my must have! My face never looks rosy/flushed so blush makes such a huge difference. I tried using lipsticks but I found it broke me out so blush is like no1 for me! Still I loved this post, I’ve never seen anyone write about what you DON’T need ;)

Love these tips! <3 I'm so used to wearing eyeliner that I feel weird without it lol but I love the idea of using eyeshadow to create the same look! No need for a defined and precise line every day! :)

    Hi Sona!

You mention utilizing a eyeliner with red undertones for brown eyes. Do you have any recommendations? I am unable to find the NYX eyeliner you talk about!

For the under eye corrector, is it a red lipstick or a lipstick the color of your dark circles that works? Sorry, I’m a little confused by this hack. This is my 1st time hearing of it and I wanna make sure I understand it.

    • ReplyAnna Rose McCarthyJune 14, 2016 at 4:43 pm

For under eye correcting, use a red lipstick. Google the words “color wheel”. Whatever color you need to correct, use the color opposite it. For example if you have redness, use yellow or green. Be sure to use small amounts or else you will look like the wicked witch!

Hi Sona! I loved your tip about using an eyeshadow as a liner! I will definitely be trying that soon. My must have is my oil blotters! I never leave home without them. I also keep a powder in my bag as well.

  • ReplyElinaJune 15, 2016 at 3:53 pm

I am going to definitely put this info into good use…there always seems to be no room in the makeup bag left, so this info will come in handy! :)
