You’d never believe it, but it seems like LA has actually been having a winter! Usually winters are pretty mild here, but we’ve had a ton of rain in the past few weeks! Regardless of the weather, it seems that my skin always gets really dry during the winter months—and I know this can be way more of a problem in colder regions! I’ve partnered with Dove to share a few ways to stay moisturized through the winter, read on for my top five steps to keep your skin looking fresh and hydrated for the next few months and beyond!
How to Prevent Dry Skin
1. Drink lots of H2O
This is probably the most important thing you can do! No matter how many moisturizing products you use, your skin won’t have that plump, youthful look unless you are drinking enough water. It can be difficult to remember to drink water, but I’ve found that if I carry a cute reuseable water bottle with me, I’m more likely to take a sip!
2. Use a hydrating body wash.
As counterintuitive as it seems, taking a shower and being in the water for a long time can dry out your skin more! It’s super important to use a moisturizing body cleanser that isn’t harsh or drying! Dove’s new Deep Moisture Shower Foam is designed to help your skin retain moisture while gently foaming so you get a soft, airy lather without drying your skin! It’s the first foaming body wash from Dove and feels so light while cleansing and moisturizing your skin. I love using Dove’s Deep Moisture Shower Foam because my skin is so dry, but it also comes in three other versions to fit your skincare needs! It even uses the brand’s gentlest cleansers—traditionally used in facial cleansers.
3. Use a humidifier
Going from warm, heated indoors and then out to the cold can be really tough on your skin! Heaters are definitely essential in the cold weather, but using a humidifier will combat the drying effect of the heat!
4. Wear moisturizer
After using a hydrating cleanser body like Dove Deep Moisture Shower Foam, seal in the moisture by using your favorite moisturizer! I usually use body lotion as soon as I get out of the shower and apply a face moisturizer day and night. I also keep hand creams in my purse to use in a pinch when I’m on the go!
5. Eat water-rich foods.
I know I keep saying this, but just as drinking water keeps your skin moisturized, eating water-rich foods can also help your skin stay hydrated! Foods like cucumbers, leafy greens, squashes, and fruits are all great options! Eating foods like these has the added benefit of being nutritious, so you can work to moisturize your skin while feeling healthy! You can read more about this in this post!
P.S. How cute is this animation from Dove?

Great post, Sona! I’ve had oily skin my whole life, but last year I had a bunch of health issues and after the treatment my skin is now super dry and I am struggling to figure out the best products to use for it! Especially a good face moisturizer…do you have any favorite face moisturizers you’d recommend?! Love your blog, Sona!

Drinking water helps a lot, especially when it’s dry out!!
I’ve always had dry skin, very nasty actually! I tried so many products and I have found Lipikar Fluid from La Roche-Posay it really soothes my skin. I have to try the Dove shower foam :) Simone from Zurich, Switzerland
Thanks for the tips Sona! I’m actually trying to drink more water because I tend to forget during the day. I’m going to go and get a cute water bottle like you suggested lol and see if that will make me drink more! Thanks again, always looking forward to your posts and videos :)

Another great tip to fight dry skin in winters is to use light coconut oil mixed in your moisturizer and it’ll keep you hydrated almost all day long..
luv ya!?
That’s such a great idea! I’ll have to try that out :)
The name tags is really cool. I have super dry skin that I have to mix oil with my moisturiser
Very essential beauty skincare for dry skin. I always like to drink lots of water, either I drink too much or too little. Need to work on that more, in the mean time using a good moisturizer is helpful too. :)
Nice post!

This is a great post! My skin is kinda problematic, it’s oily on my face, but so dry on my body. I think finding a good moisturizing body wash is so important, ever since I switched to natural soap (100% oils) I’ve noticed a huge difference. I definitely need to drink more water though, fancy bottle is such a cool idea!
Hugs! #snapchatfam

My daughter also have a dry skin. I used to give her Orange juice. It really helps her out in reducing dryness during winters.

I have combination skin on my face, but my body is super dry! I’ve always hated to wait for the lotion to dry and so I kind of just brush it quickly on my body! :( I definitely want to try the in-shower body lotion ;) thanks Sona. snapfam

Yes I have such dry skin too and it can be sooo annoying when you’re tired after you’ve had a shower after the gym and you’re hungry and the last thing you want to do is moisturise so that Dove shower foam looks amazing! I hope they have it in the UK because I’m definitely gonna try it! Also thanks for mentioning diet and drinking lots of water because that is so important and people always forget!
I suffer from dry skin , my legs are the worst and so are my elbows. Thank you for this post, I will have to try out the Dove shower foam!!
I have sensitive skin that tends to be on the dry side and in the winter months if I’m not careful I will started getting spots of eczema. My son has the same issues however his is slightly more severe than mine. So we both moisturize everyday to keep the eczema at bay and will use aquaphor when we have some really dry spots. For baths, I love the oatmeal bath soak from Lush, it smells so good and it helps soothe my skin. When my son asks for a bath, I always use the oatmeal soak for him too.
I’m always drinking water and have recently changed my shower gel to a shower cream and has found it works absolute wonders!! My hands are the driest and roughest part of me and I find Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve works like a dream.
My face is combination skin but my legs get really dry, especially in winter. I love using body butters before going to sleep or using baby oils after showers to moisturize my skin ? #snapchatfam
I suffer from dry skin and I have noticed now that I been drinking more water throughout the day it has helped. I also do a at home scrub for my body by mixing raw honey and brown sugar and it works amazing results! Will have to try the Dove product you are recommending. I love Dove products!
