Sona Selects January Edition

Beauty, makeup, sona selects

Hi loves! January has come and gone and now it’s time for my monthly roundup of beauty favorites! This month features a wide variety of beauty products at all price ranges, from drugstore to high end makeup!

sona selects beauty products

Nivea In Shower Smoothing Moisturizer in Coco Butter ($6)

My skin is almost always dry, but this winter it’s been especially bad! I’ve been using this Nivea In Shower Smoothing Moisturizer which is a lotion that you put on in the shower and then rinse off so that you don’t get the sticky feeling of regular lotion! It leaves my skin super hydrated all day long!

sona selects beauty products

Korres Greek Yoghurt Smoothie Priming Moisturiser ($42)

I used this primer in my Romantic Date Night Makeup tutorial on YouTube and I love it! (If you missed the video, you can watch it here!) It has all natural ingredients and it works both as a primer and a moisturizer! The Korres Greek Yoghurt Smoothie Priming Moisturizer  also works to hydrate and plump your skin!

Pür No Filter Blurring Photography Primer ($33)

This new No Filter Blurring Photography Primer from Pür is absolutely made for Instagram-ready makeup! It helps to illuminate and brighten your skin before you put on foundation. (You can also add a drop to your foundation for a super glowy finish!)

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector ($41)

Unlike the traditional highlighter, you can use this mixed with your moisturizer, primer, or foundation to give you an all over dewy glow. Of course you can also use it as you would regular highlighter, added just a few drops to your cheekbones. I love the soft radiance that this product has it looks entirely natural while enhancing your face. I like the Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal.

Benefit Dandelion ($29)

Benefit’s Dandelion Blush has been one of my go-to blushes lately! I love the light baby pink color adds just enough warmth and glow to your face! Not to mention that the packaging is absolutely adorable!

Makeup Forever Pro Light Fusion Undetectable Luminzer ($39)

If you’re just testing the waters with highlighter, this Pro Light Fusion Undetectable Luminizer from Makeup Forever is the way to go! It’s super sheer and gives you just the slightest hint of rose gold shimmer that brightens your face (but you can totally build it for a more intense highlight!)

Dose of Colors Gold is the New Black Supreme Glow Highlighter ($28)

The Dose of Colors Gold is the New Black Supreme Glow Highlighter is a really gorgeous yellow gold. I use it with a damp brush for a high impact effect.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation ($39)

Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation is an amazing full coverage water-based foundation. It has lots of antioxidants and is SPF 15. I never leave the house without some sunscreen on my face, but a bit of extra SPF coverage is never a bad thing! This is a super light formula and it isn’t buildable, so I use it for days when I want my skin to shine!

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup ($40)

This foundation is totally made for the girl on the go! It’s a cult favorite foundation with beautiful natural finish that seriously lasts all day! Through meetings, running errands and hours of editing videos, this Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation doesn’t budge! It’s my go to for events since it’s full coverage but looks natural.

sona selects beauty products

Kopari Lip Love ($10)

I always have a lip balm in my purse, and lately this Kopari Lip Love lip balm has been my go to! It’s made with high quality coconut oil and natural ingredients that are seriously hydrating! Since I wear drying lipsticks so often, this is an absolute essential for soft lips!

Clarins Joli Rouge Brilliant ($29)

While matte, opaque lipsticks have been all the rage lately, there’s really nothing like a good sheer lipstick. My current favorite is the Clarins Joli Rouge Brilliant. It gives your lips just enough color for a soft, natural effect that’s perfect for a romantic makeup look! (Especially with Valentine’s day coming up!)

Milani Bahama Beige ($5)

Not only is this Milani lipstick wildly affordable at $5, the color is beautiful! Bahama Beige is one of my favorite nude hues for when I’m going for a no makeup makeup look or when I want to put more focus on my eyes but want just a little bit of color on my lips.

sona selects beauty products

KL Polish in Brick Sidewalk and Zoey ($9)

One of my fellow beauty YouTubers, Kathleen Lights started a nail polish line, KL Polish, and it’s amazing! Zoey and Brick Sidewalk are definitely my two favorite shades. The polish is long lasting and looks beautiful on!

What’s your favorite beauty product this month? Tell me in the comments!

I love the double wear foundation although I only wear it on special events. On the daily I wear L’Oréal BB cream which is my absolute favorite! I’ve gone through 6 tubes. Right now I’m loving NARS casino bronzer and Bobbi brown bronzer! Soooo good!

  • ReplyJenniferFebruary 2, 2017 at 10:57 am

The Tarte foundation I am in LOVE with that! I have extremely oily skin, even in the Winter and I really love this. It doesn’t make me look like an oil slick by the end of the day. Also, can’t go wrong with the SPF.
(I am also acne prone and this foundation doesn’t make me break out)

  • ReplyClaire M.February 2, 2017 at 11:01 am

I always love your product recommendations, Sona!! I really want to try the Benefit blush and tarte foundation…but my favorite January product has to be your Persona Identity palette! I got it a couple weeks ago and have been having so much fun trying all the looks you’ve done tutorials on. It’s seriously such an amazing palette!

    • ReplySonaFebruary 3, 2017 at 4:10 pm

Aww thank you! I’m so happy you like it!! xoxox

  • ReplyBlush & PearlsFebruary 2, 2017 at 11:10 am

There’re both awesome and you can’t beat the price :) Amazing drugstore finds!

  • ReplyJennifer TibbittsFebruary 2, 2017 at 11:15 am

I totally want to try that Korres moisturizer/primer! I’ve used that Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea foundation and I really liked it! The dropper was an interesting touch for a foundation!

I used to be obsessed with Benefit and all my products were exclusively from them. Now I hardly use any of their products, but since you’ve mentioned them lately I’ve been wanting to get back into them!

  • ReplyAycaFebruary 2, 2017 at 11:56 am

I love the Becca shimmering perfector. There are many highlighters out there but I think becca has changed the game forever ? none of the other hightligters have the same kind of light and effect ? My current favorite is moonstone though ?

  • ReplyCarlaFebruary 2, 2017 at 12:00 pm

I have been looking at the Pur “drop” products recently and wondering how they work and if they are effective/worth the money. I feel like it is kind of expensive but you also get a large quantity of it so it evens out. I will definitely be trying this! Thanks for reviewing it! annnnnnd I love the foundation options- always looking to try something else! I didn’t know the tarte was water-based. Love it all- this is possibly my favorite series you post. xoxo

    • ReplySonaFebruary 3, 2017 at 4:13 pm

Yay! I love doing this series, so I’m glad you like it!! :)

  • ReplyLusine NaljayanFebruary 2, 2017 at 12:42 pm

You are so creative dear Son jhan.. I am in love with the Nivea in shower body lotion. After the shower my skin gets soooo smooth it is really amazing. Also your video is the best xoxo

  • ReplyLeahFebruary 2, 2017 at 12:50 pm

The video setup is great looking! Loved all of the products that you mentioned. I really wanna try the Pur primer. I love their products.

  • ReplyEwelinaFebruary 2, 2017 at 2:54 pm

Great recommendations! I guess I need to give this Nivea lotion a try, because my skin is so dry in winter. This Milani lipstick looks really nice, seems like a perfect nude. I’ve always wanted to try out Double Wear but it’s too expensive for me right now, so I stick to my Revlon Colorstay :)
    Hugs! #snapchatfam

I also love the Estée Lauder foundation! I wear it any day I’m not just running errands or something boring like that. This month I’m loving the Kiko Eye shadow stick. It’s supposedly a dupe for the Laura Mercier caviar sticks and I really enjoy it!

  • ReplyZainabFebruary 2, 2017 at 7:18 pm

Loved the tutorial and blog post, Sona!! I am definitely going to try out that eye look using the Identity Palette! ? My favorite new product this month is actually related to the Tarte foundation you mentioned above – it is the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea aquaconcealer. I love it!! I also use it for highlighting (which I never did with concealer before) – a tip I got from you! Xoxo ? #snapchatfam

Thank you so much for sharing your Jan faves Sona! Much appreciated! Been stopping myself from purchasing the Estee Lauder double wear but I think you may have convinced me ;) xx

Beautiful! I love that you feature both higher and lower priced products. I’d love to see a post on multi post palettes and products. I’m a working mum and have about 0.2 seconds each morning to do my makeup. Multi use products are my time cheats, because hey, I girls still got to look fab!

Love your January favorite products. My favor would be the Estée Lauder Double wear foundation too. It’s the best coverage. But any tips on how to start a blog? I’ve been thinking about it but not sure if it’s a good thing or bad? Love you, Sona. You should do more YouTube video with your husband soon. You guys are too funny and cool on Snapchat.
