Sona Selects April Edition

Beauty, sona selects
april edition of Sona Selects, the best makeup and beauty products of the month

Hi loves! I’m gearing up for a much needed long weekend vacation in Cabo! I’m so excited to get a chance to recharge and come back with some new ideas to share with you guys both up on the blog and on my channel! But in the meantime, it’s time for the April Edition of Sona Selects! For those of you who are new to the blog, Sona Selects is my monthly roundup of the best makeup releases or old standbys that I keep coming back to! These are all the must have beauty products that I’m loving right now!

sona selects beauty products

 1. Benefit Cosmetics GALifornia ($29)

Before I even got to the product, I was absolutely blown away by the packaging on the new Benefit Cosmetics Galifornia Blush! It’s so cute! This blush is a rosy pink with a soft golden shimmer that looks like a beautiful sun kissed glow. I know that I’ve said that I don’t like shimmery blush, since it can emphasize larger pores, but the shimmer in this one is so fine and pearly that it doesn’t have that effect.  I love the warmth this blush adds to your face, it feels so summery!

2. L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation ($17)

As a member of the L’Oreal League, I’ve tried and tested all of L’Oreal’s foundations, and I have to say that the True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation is definitely in my top two! I love the radiant, natural finish with the convenience of a cushion compact! This foundation is super buildable, but it doesn’t cake or look too overdone.

3. Dior Instant Gentle Exfoliant ($39)

If you’re looking for a super luxurious exfoliator, I love the Dior Instant Gentle Exfoliant from Dior! It’s super gentle and makes your skin feel smooth and radiant! I’m pretty cautious when it comes to exfoliating my skin, but this one feels really soft (and it smells amazing!) I keep this exfoliant in my shower and use it twice a week or so on my face, applying in in small circular motions to smooth and refresh my skin!

4. Smashbox Spotlight Palette in Gold ($35)

This new Spotlight Palette from Smashbox is part of a collaboration with one of my fellow beauty YouTubers, Casey Holmes! The highlighters in this palette have a really pretty shimmer that give you a soft glow. You can build these highlighters for a high impact shine, but I like to use them for a subtle shimmering look.

5. Callas Eyelash Adhesive Glue ($5)

If you guys have been following my YouTube channel for a while, you’ll know that I love false lashes! They add just a bit of extra drama to any makeup look! One of my favorite lash adhesives is from a Korean beauty brand, Callas. This Eyelash Adhesive Glue is latex free and waterproof. It really holds falsies in place, but is easy to remove.

sona selects beauty products

6. Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil ($26)

The Clarins Lip Comfort Lip Oil combines the hydrating effect of lip oil with a really pretty tinted gloss. It’s super comfortable to wear and looks amazing with a no makeup makeup look, since it has such a subtle effect.

7. Dior Rouge Dior Brilliant Lipshine in in 468 Bonheur ($35)

Any lip gloss that hydrates my lips and looks amazing is a winner in my book! This Rouge Dior Brilliant Lipshine not only has a beautiful color that’s perfect for Spring, it has nourishing oils that help keep your lips moisturized! I love how it has just enough color to look soft and pretty, but won’t overwhelm your look.

sona selects, the best of beauty

8. Maui Moisture Strength and Anti-Breakage Hair Mask ($9)

My hair goes through a lot! Even though I try to keep my hair healthy, I do heat style and dye it, so it can get a bit damaged. To counteract that damage, I use this Maui Moisture Hair Mask! It’s so hydrating and has aloe vera, coconut oil, coconut water, and honey in it to help keep my hair looking healthy! My hair is really thick, and I’ve tried tons of hair masks, even really expensive ones, and none have made my hair feel as smooth and silky as this one!

sona selects beauty products

9. Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Pinky Promise 160 ($10)

How cute is this shade for Spring? This soft pink Sally Hansen Miracle Gel goes with almost every outfit and the polish is super long lasting! It’s a formulated to last like a gel polish, but you don’t need a special lamp to cure it!

What beauty product would you never leave home without? I’ll have a video on this month’s best makeup (plus a few that were disappointments!) up soon on my channel, so stay tuned!

Early crew here! That lip gloss might be next on my list! I currently have been loving Nars in Turkish Delight as my go to nude lip gloss but that one is gorgeous! I definitely never leave home without a liquid lipstick, a lip gloss, and my compact! I always sometimes have a mini mascara in case I need to put on a extra coat later in the day! Great post per usual sona, can’t wait to check out the video once you post it :) <3 CABO sounds amazing!!! Please do a VLOG I would love to see what you guys do out there!!! #snapchatfam <3 you!

Need that Lumi- Cushion foundation! It seems easy to apply!

I really need my lipsticks! They can do a world of a difference on my face!

I swear that I am hooked on all your tips and try to do them in my day to day?
Thank you so much for your tips! ?

Yay! I love this series!!!! I always want to buy every product you recommend!! I love that Sally Hansen nail polish color! I’ve been searching for the perfect light pink for spring and summer! That Benefit blush looks beautiful, too! I can never leave home without some lip gloss! I’ve been having fun wearing some light and bright pinks for Spring and Summer! Love your blog Sona! Thanks for the post! Hope you’re feeling better with your vitamin treatments!! #Snapchatfam

  • ReplyJeanette TinocoMay 2, 2017 at 10:52 am

GREAT POST! I still haven’t tried the Benefit blush, it’s such a pretty shade. I really can’t leave my house without mascara, bronzer and concealer, I feel like those are a must for me. Can you please do a blog post or video on the best makeup for hot days and talk about if we should use cream products or powder, both, etc because i know most people sweat their makeup even though is waterproof.

That’s a great idea, Jeanette! I know it can definitely be tricky to make your makeup stay put in warmer weather! I included a few tips for how to sweat proof your makeup in my recent Pink Glitter Festival Makeup Tutorial, you can check it out on my channel! :)

so excellent choices Sona.I love Galifornia and L’oreal’s cushion foundation!

  • ReplyEwelinaMay 2, 2017 at 11:27 am

Nice recommendations! This Benefit blush looks amazing, perfect for summer. Do you think this Loreal foundation would work for oily skin? I want to try some new foundations, but it’s not easy to find something that doesn’t oxidize too much and doesn’t make me look too greasy.
I hope you’ll have fun in Cabo, hugs!

Hi Ewelina, I think the L’Oreal Lumi Cushion Foundation would work for oily skin! Just make sure to prime your skin and set it in place! And thank you, I will!

  • ReplyShelbyMay 2, 2017 at 11:55 am

    Hi Love!

Aw, can’t say I’m not a little jelly about going to Cabo! But goodness, you deserve it- I know how hard you and hubby work all the time.
I’m literally loving the Benefit Cosmetics GALifornia blush you sent me! It’s absolutely stunning… Love wearing this on the apples of my cheeks.
That hair mask sounds awesome! And a plus is that I love Maui :)
    Take care, cutie!

This month I was obsessed with my Ofra rodeo highlighter. Clarin lip oil sounds really double duty, I shall try that. Thanks for putting this together. Xoxo snapfamforlife ❤❤ Have fun in Cabo!

Omg I really want to try that blush now cause, I as well have large pores, so I haven’t really been a fan of blush! I’ve also tried a million different exfoliators and the Dior is next on my list ?

  • ReplyStephMay 2, 2017 at 12:48 pm

Ahh great blog post Sona!! I love Sally Hansen nail polishes they’re so easy to use and they last a long time on my nails! Xx

  • ReplyAycaMay 2, 2017 at 1:01 pm

I can’t believe it’s april already! A question: Is the lip comfort oil kind of like the juicy shakers? #snapchatfam

  • ReplyFarhana RahmanMay 2, 2017 at 1:03 pm

Honesty sona I am exactly like you I do not like shimmering blushes but honestly benefits galifornia is such a unique blush which always calls my name out but I can’t wait to try that out. I do not wear flash lashes so I really I can’t say anything or u can say I do not know anything. Day to day look I like to wear a nude pink lipgloss exactly l as you said in the blog post and yah I can’t wait to try the dior lipgloss. Thanks sona n love u.

  • ReplySusan MandellMay 2, 2017 at 1:10 pm

Galifornia made me a little nervous with the gold shimmer, but if you say it’s not too much, I believe you! Thanks for the review ?

  • ReplyJazmin GuerreroMay 2, 2017 at 1:10 pm

I will need to try to cushion foundation maybe it can be something that I can carry in my make up bag. Something I can’t leave behind at the moment is my mascara and some type of lip product that has a nice natural color to it. That way I can somewhat look alive lol #snapchatfam

  • ReplyAditiMay 2, 2017 at 1:10 pm

I adore the Smashbox x Casey Holmes palette too! it just gives me a beautiful glow. I also love the Loreal Lumi Cushion. I love the way it makes my skin look! I love you and will never stop supporting you! #snapfam

  • ReplyRegyMay 2, 2017 at 1:15 pm

Hi Sona! I love love your picks :)

  • ReplyAliyah MalikMay 2, 2017 at 1:16 pm

I tried the lumi cushion recently in store and it did actually look pretty good! Especially since drugstore foundations tend to be too orange or grey for my skintone. But the lumi cushion feels like it would be sooo perfect for summertime, I cant wait to buy it. Also I know you do sona selects every month and I noticed how different it was than all the typical “april favourites” I see in my YouTube subscription box- definitely a really good idea to change up the name!

  • ReplySoujanya ChoppalaMay 2, 2017 at 1:19 pm

I am all up for the tinted lip oil. With the changing climate and scortching heat , my lips are parched and dehydrated all the time, I have tried the lip oil by ELF and it’s amazing as well. The Benefit Cosmetics Galifornia looks tempting too. I think I need to visit Sephora again now *wink wink*

Thank you for this great review. I was actually waiting to hear about your opinion in regards to the Smashbox x Casey Holmes Highlight palette. I’ve been debating between the ABH x Nicole G highlight palette and Smashbox and you have you help me to make that decision. I love hearing your opinions and thoughts. Great fan of yours. I don’t have your palette yet but is on my wishlist. I will always support everything you do!

Love these monthly favorites! I am pregnant with my third baby and clothes are not my favorite to shop for right now ( even though I love fashion)! I’m obsessed with makeup and skin care products so I always look for your monthly favorites to try out new great products! I always trust your judgement, nothing you have suggested in the past was a disappointment! Also, we have similar skin types so I love your foundation recommendations! Thank you Sona! Xo

I also love watching your snaps and your channel, while i’m new to your blog, I really love all your april favourites, especially the blush. I think you do a great job at incorporating high end and drugstore, keep doin you girl!

  • ReplyIngridMay 2, 2017 at 2:17 pm

Have you tried the Dior cushion foundation? I just saw Tati use it on her channel and the coverage looked AMAZING! Also, what foundation do you recommend for a bride that has more combo/oily skin? I tried the Dior Airflash and it broke my skin out horribly, so I’m on the hunt for another one! A lady at Sephora suggested the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Long Wear Foundation…

  • ReplyJeanine A.May 2, 2017 at 2:17 pm

They beauty product that I can’t leave the house without is mascara! I’d rather have a plain face with nothing on it than no mascara ?I feel like mascara instantly makes you look more awake and energized! Great post! I always love your monthly selects and this month has a lot of goodies I want to try! I want to try the hoola blush, the sally Hansen nail polish because I love pink and it’s my favorite color ? And the hair mask! I’ve been on the lookout for a hydrating hair mask because my hair is always dry so thank you for recommending one! And thanks again for another awesome post ????

I love the Lumi Foundation as well, it’s one of my top favorites ever, for Spring the one product I cannot live without is the Benefit Benebalm. It’s like their Benetint for lips and cheek cut just for your lips and super hydrating and looks gorgeous on!!

The Loreal Cushion Foundation is Da Best! I love it too! ? #snapchatfam

  • ReplyHoa nguyenMay 2, 2017 at 4:57 pm

I love the blog post! I definitely need to buy the Dior exfoliate and the loreal’s cusion. I am in need of a new foundation and face cleaning/ exfoliate.. my summer goal is to have fresh/ clear skin so that I don’t have to wear heavy makeup… #snapchatfam

  • ReplyLinda OropezaMay 2, 2017 at 5:47 pm

Definitely going to try some of your favorite products. I love your posts and I’m glad to be able to read your blog posts again, after being so busy. Love you! #snapchatfam

  • ReplyJodiMay 2, 2017 at 5:50 pm

I would nEver leave home without a brow product. If my eyebrows aren’t done or get become somehow askew (lol) , I don’t want to be seen by anyone! And this is after I’ve already done microblading !

  • ReplyBrookeMay 2, 2017 at 6:18 pm

Look forward to these every month :)

  • ReplyAnna KarirMay 2, 2017 at 6:19 pm

    Hey Sona
I have used the Loreal Lumi cushion too, however, I sometimes think that it is for oily skin and I am dry but what do you think I should use to prep to make it look flawless.
Great selects though. Love the Galifornia blush :)

Hi Anna, my skin can get dry too! I use really hydrating moisturizers and primers before my foundation and it really helps!

  • ReplyDeirdreMay 2, 2017 at 6:20 pm

I’m very interested in trying that Dior Exfoliating gel.

My favorite products that I can leave home without are my Nars Radiant creamy concealer, my It Cosmetics universal brow pencil & mascara!

  • ReplyAlinaMay 2, 2017 at 6:26 pm

Thanks for sharing girly! I love your layouts you always make them look so good. Definitely must try the Galifornia blush now.

  • ReplyNamthip xamMay 2, 2017 at 6:40 pm

I also love the L’Oréal cushion compact! I wish they hate more shades tho! And the Clarins lip oil! Some of my faves. But my go to this month has been the Dior nude air foundation. It’s so light and makes my huge pores disappear!

  • ReplyLuanaMay 2, 2017 at 6:44 pm

I have HUUGE pores, but I still use the shimmery blushes and just apply them closer to the outside of my face :) Will try on “Galifornia” next time I’m at Ulta <3 #SnappyChattyFam

Hiyahh hiyahh! I’m new to your leaving comments on your blog. I’ve been reading your blog and watching your YouTube videos but I’ve never left comments until now :). I love the lumi true match also but can’t seem to find the right shade. I did follow your YouTube video on finding the right shade of foundation. I just pretty much contoured and highlighted so the foundation doesn’t look way lighter than my body color. Also, I would like to try that hair mask. I just moved to Las Vegas and the water here is pretty rough on my hair (we are waiting to install a water softener).

  • ReplyCeciliaMay 2, 2017 at 7:25 pm

I ❤️ my lumi cushion foundation! Even though I have oily skin, I still love how natural this one looks. I just swatched the benefit blush at ulta today! It’s gorgeous

  • ReplyMaria PetrellaMay 2, 2017 at 7:40 pm

Hi Sona! I am always interested in the beauty bits you are loving! Great choices! Looking forward to the upcoming video on this! ? Maria

  • ReplyLizMay 2, 2017 at 7:55 pm

I really want to try all of these!! Especially the Galifornia blush. The one thing I can’t leave my house without is my long last lipgloss from Clinique that keeps my ? looking amazing all day.

  • ReplyDiana PopMay 2, 2017 at 8:42 pm

Wow that blush looks BEAUTIOUS and is definitely on my shopping list now. Your imput is always so helpful in narrowing down products that I can commit myself to buying. The budget is always super tight so it’s very helpful to have good quality options in high end and drug stores as well. One question I have is what must have every day make up product would you recommend splurging on more in terms of quality? Thanks Sona!

    • ReplySonaMay 4, 2017 at 10:42 am

Hi Diana! I actually have a blogpost all about that called “Is It Worth It? My Take on Expensive vs. Drugstore Makeup”! Hope this helps!

  • ReplySissi SampurnoMay 2, 2017 at 8:59 pm

That Benefit blush is to die for, so pretty and everything… great recommendations as always xx

Love all the new products i’m going to have to try the GALifonia as it seems to be getting such great review! Any great recommendations for moisturizers as the weather is getting warm?

    Hi Sona!
I can’t leave my house without mascara, concealer and blush- because in winter and early spring I am very pale but in summer it’s better- I sunbath very quickly . It sounds weird, doesn’t it??
So I feel like those are a must for me. ?

THANK YOU FOR THIS AWESOME POST!
April is such a tricky months down here in Florida, sometimes is really hot and other days it’ll rain and be really humid. A good exfoliator and hair mask would do my body good!! I will definitely be trying the hair mask. I also have really thick hair and think the mask will really hydrate my hair. THANK YOU SO MUCH! xoxoxo

I just love Loreal lumi foundation. <3
    Nice products.

  • ReplySafia QammarMay 3, 2017 at 9:10 am

Holy grail products. Benefit blush is super amazing. Lo-real lumi foundation is also great. I’m obsessed with it.
Can you do a video on trending sunnies for different face shapes. Now-a-days there are so many cute shades out their but sometimes it hard to find what looks good on oval face. Please do a video or a blog post on it.

    • ReplySonaMay 4, 2017 at 10:46 am

Hi pretty, that’s a great suggestion! I do have a blogpost all about how to choose sunglasses for your face shape! You can check it out here, it’s called How To Find the Perfect Sunglasses for Your Face! Lots of love!

When you take your break early at work to watch a new video from SONA and read the blog past lol ;) Where do you get the Maui hair mask??

    • ReplySonaMay 4, 2017 at 10:48 am

You can find it at Ulta, or even at the drugstore! :)

  • ReplyPrestinamarieMay 3, 2017 at 11:56 am

Absolutely LOVE the smash box highlighter! Totally a summer staple for me too!

  • ReplyChristie ClineMay 3, 2017 at 12:09 pm

I’ve been too scared to try out that new Benefit blush because it looks so shimmery! But if you say it’s good, then it must be haha. I’ll definitely have to check it out next time I’m at Sephora!

  • ReplyDenaMay 3, 2017 at 3:26 pm

I never leave home without a lip balm and a lip product with some color. Unless I get super sweaty the rest of my makeup stays on well, I just need to blot. So I also need blotting papers! :) I love that Galifornia blush but I in no way shape or form need more blush! I do have the Smashbox palette and I’m loving it! Thanks Sona!

  • ReplyAri NatsagdorjMay 3, 2017 at 7:44 pm

Never can leave the house without lip balm, my lips get chapped so much. The hair mask looks good.

  • ReplyAlejandra OrdazMay 3, 2017 at 9:26 pm

Cannot leave without my chapstick!! I know, I know. But I have the driest lips. I would die without my Carmex chapstick!

  • ReplyAgnes EisaghalianMay 4, 2017 at 9:32 am

I am definitely looking forward to try the lipsticks with oil consistency. I love the natural stain it leaves on the lips. Also, the press in powder from L’Oreal should be a good summer make-up. Thank you for always capturing such beautiful beauty products =] Your efforts will not go unnoticed. Love ya!!!!

  • ReplyCamiMay 4, 2017 at 11:36 am

The Dior Lipshine is calling my name! It looks so dainty and natural, great for all seasons! Also the L’Oreal cushion foundation is my go-to foundation for everyday looks. Love it for work because it stays all day but it lets my skin breathe. Great stuff! Thanks for sharing, Sona <3

  • ReplyMichelle SandsMay 5, 2017 at 1:37 am

I don’t know why I haven’t tried the Loreal Lumi Cushion, especially since I’ve heard SO many good things about it. Cushion products sounded a bit gimmicky to me at first but this post put it back on my radar! Plus I do love the Loreal Pro Glow and the original True Match Lumi foundation. Thanks for the review!

  • ReplyImanMay 23, 2017 at 8:42 am

    Hi sona,
I’m one of your biggest fans. I have been following you for quite a while now, but this is the first time I write on your blog.
Thanks to you I ve learned how to apply my make up the right way, but I still have hard time finding a good foundation to cover my large pores. I have pores all over my face!
Looking forward to your next video.
    Thanks.
