Hello from Cabo! KB and I just arrived here last night and I can’t get over how beautiful it is here! We needed a little bit of relaxation and time to recharge and I don’t think we could have chosen a better place! Yesterday, we spent hours hanging out on the balcony and watching the sunset—our view is absolutely stunning! Since our hotel room is so pretty, we also snapped a few photos for this post and are going to be doing a vlog on this trip (so I don’t want to give too much away!) But now, lets talk a little bit about my travel makeup collection and what I brought on this trip. (If only I could always work from a balcony with an ocean view!)
When it comes to packing for vacation, I am a chronic overpacker. What if there’s an opportunity to wear the super cute sandals that I’ve never taken out of the box? While I bring way more clothes and shoes than I could possibly need for a trip, I am an expert when it comes to packing makeup. I pare down my (admittedly extensive) makeup collection to the bare minimum when traveling. Especially for a tropical beach location, like Cabo, I keep my travel makeup collection to the essentials!
When traveling, I make sure that all my makeup fits in a small zippered makeup bag. Though I do bring specific products depending on where I’m going, my travel makeup is usually all products that I love and use all the time! For example, I’ll always bring my favorite highlighter of the moment, but I might bring a dark plum lipstick to New York and a bright red for a tropical vacation! Here’s the makeup that I brought with me to Cabo!
Too Faced Hangover Primer— A good base is key to getting your makeup to stay put in a warmer climate! I use this one from Too Faced all the time because it really hydrates my skin and creates a smooth base that makes my foundation look perfect and stay in place!
Shiseido Synchro Skin Glow Luminizing Fluid Foundation SPF 20—This is my favorite foundation right now! It has a luminizing finish which I love, and for this trip, I’m all about a slightly dewy look! It feels a bit like a skincare product when you put it on, since it’s so light weight and has hydrating argan and cranberry seed oils. Plus, I’m always a fan of SPF, especially when on a tropical vacation!
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer—Even on vacation, I could use the brightening effects of this luminous concealer! I usually prefer lightweight products over heavier ones, and in warmer climates I think it’s best! I use this concealer for pinpoint concealing and for brightening under my eyes and around my nose.
Bronzer— I absolutely love bronzers, so I brought a few different options. The Marc Jacobs O!mega Bronze in 104 Tan-Tastic even smells like vacation! The finish on this Marc Jacobs bronzer is semi matte and looks really pretty and natural. My Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (in Radiant Light!) has a luminous finish that looks so wonderfully glowy!
Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Quickie Contour Stick—Where I use the previous bronzers as a way to add all over color, I use the Hoola Quickie Contour Stick just for contouring! It’s so quick and convenient, I can even apply some on the go, then blend with my fingers!
Blush— I brought the Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso and a Bobbi Brown Blush. The Milani Luminoso is peachy pink hued and perfect to add some color when hanging out by the pool! If you’ve been following me for a while on YouTube, you’ve probably seen me use this blush a lot! On the other hand, my Bobbi Brown Blush is a brighter pink, which I love for a rosy look.
Highlighter— The Nars Banc de Sable Highlighting Palette palette has all the shades I need to create a gorgeous natural glow! I like highlighting the high points of my cheeks, the tip of my nose, my cupids bow, and the inner corner of my eyes. I also brought along the Artist Couture Diamond Glow Powder for a higher impact highlight!
La Mer The Powder—Translucent powder is an absolute must in a hot climate! You’ve probably heard me rave about this La Mer translucent powder, but it is just that good. It keeps all my makeup set perfectly and feels so lightweight!
MAC Cosmetics Prime + Prep Fix +— This is the key to a long lasting dewy look! I’ll spritz this on my face after I’ve finished my makeup to set it in place or spray it on my eyeshadow brushes when I want a more pigmented look. (It also comes in a convenient mini travel size!)
Persona Cosmetics Identity Palette—Compact and versatile, it’s perfect for everything from a casual beach day look to a sultry, dramatic eye for a romantic dinner! Since I can create so many different looks with this Palette, it’s the only one that I’m bringing with me to Cabo!
Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eyeliner Crayon—I’ll wear this for a date night dinner! I’ve talked about this eyeliner in Sona Selects, and I love how easy it to create a sharp, crisp line or to blend into the perfect smokey eye. It’s also waterproof, which is amazing, since I’ll be at the beach and the pool!
Dior Diorshow Brow Styler—Polished brows are an absolute must for me! This one from Dior makes it so easy to fill in my brows for a naturally shaped look. Plus, I love how it has a spoolie on the end, so that even when I’m not wearing makeup, I can brush my brows into place!
Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara—I don’t think I can say it enough, I’m always so amazed at the difference that a little bit of mascara makes. I love how full and thick my lashes look after using this Marc Jacobs mascara! A little bit of this mascara, maybe some bronzer and I’m ready for anything (especially if anything means hanging out by the pool!)
Tarte Eyelash Curler—Even when I’m not wearing makeup, I use this lash curler and it instantly wakes up my face! This is one of my favorite lash curlers, the shape lets me really pick up every lash! For a more intense curl, I’ll hold a lighter or a blow dryer to warm it up for a few seconds before curling my lashes. (Just make sure to check that it’s not hot before using it near your eye! You can see the hack in action here)
Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick in 999—The perfect bright red lipstick for a nice dinner by the beach! This is one of the classic red lipsticks, it’s so flattering and surprisingly versatile! I’m all about a fiery, bright red and this Dior Rouge 999 is one of the best shades I’ve come across!
Lipgloss— Dior Rouge Dior Brilliant in 468 Bonheur is a pretty pinkish nude that I’ll wear on vacation and all the way through summer. I love the subtle color and shine of this Dior lipgloss, I’ve been wearing it on repeat recently! I also brought a darker Ofra Lipgloss that I’ll wear for a dressed up touch!
How to Pack Makeup
I actually never bring any makeup in my carry on bag! Especially with the hassle of fitting everything into a ziplock bag to bring on the plane, I think it’s just more convenient to put it all in my checked bag. Though I’ve heard horror stories of broken highlighters and shattered bottles, I’ve never had any makeup break during a flight! To stop it from moving around in my bag and reduce the chance of breakage, I pack my makeup bag in the middle of my luggage with clothes around it.
What makeup do you always bring with you when you travel?
