I know from personal experience that hiding large pores can be such a hassle. However, making it look like your large pores have disappeared is definitely possible! With the right tools, products, and application techniques you can easily hide large pores and achieve a flawless look. In today’s blogpost, I’m revealing six steps you can take to make large pores disappear! I also posted a video showing you exactly how I diminish the appearance of large pores, so if you’d like to see these six steps in action, make sure to watch the video on my channel!
Step 1: Cleanse
Keeping your skin clean is so important to achieve a flawless, pore-free look. You should always cleanse your skin before applying other skin care or makeup products. Washing your face with a gentle cleanser will remove any dirt or oil and create a smooth, blank canvas. Stay tuned for my skin care routine, coming soon!
Step 2: Prime
The second step to making large pores appear smaller is using a pore minimizing primer. One of my all time favorite primers is the Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner. I use it almost every time I do my makeup! This primer mattifies shine and seriously minimizes the look of your pores! Another great primer to make your pores disappear is the Urban Decay Pore Perfecting Complexion Primer Potion. It’s great to use before applying makeup, or even alone to smooth out the skin and give your face an airbrushed look. The Benefit POREfessional is also another great face primer to minimize the appearance of large pores and prep the skin for makeup application. All three of these products work great, but my favorite is definitely the Dr. Brandt primer! The best way to apply it is with your fingertips, doing this really works the product into the skin and smooths the appearance of your pores.
Step 3: Brushes
The way you apply your foundation over your primer seriously matters! Using the right brush is vital to make it look like your pores have disappeared. Traditional flat foundation brushes aren’t the best for blending your makeup, because it doesn’t really buff it into the skin. To minimize large pores, I recommend using a flat kabuki brush or a Beauty Blender. I linked below a few of my favorite foundation brushes from Smashbox that I’ve been using lately to apply my makeup. Both of these tools work great to work the product into the skin and fill in large pores.
Step 4: Foundation
Just like brushes, your foundation also plays a huge part in minimizing your pores and making it look like they’ve disappeared. If you have large pores you want to stay away from luminous foundations because they’ll only accentuate them more. Instead, you should use a long-lasting matte or lightweight foundation. Products like these will help blur the appearance of your pores and create a smooth finish. One great matte finish product is the YSL All Hours foundation, I recently used it in the First Impressions Too Faced Peachy Mattes tutorial on my channel. It lasts all day and has amazing coverage! I’ve also linked a few more foundation recommendations below.
Step 5: Powder
Setting powder is also essential for setting your makeup to get flawless, poreless looking skin. One of my new favorite powders is the Le Mer The Powder. It’s a lightweight translucent powder that’s made with light diffusing ingredients, which gives you that poreless look. I’ve also linked a few more affordable translucent powders that are great alternatives below. The trick to applying powder for the smoothest application possible is to use a damp Beauty Blender and press the powder onto the skin. Pressing the powder onto your skin, rather than sweeping it with a brush, makes sure that any products you’ve previously applied stay in place.
Step 6: Avoid Shimmer
If you’re trying to make large pores seemingly disappear, you should avoid using products with heavy shimmer because it’ll only make them look larger. I recommend using matte blushes and bronzers. There are even great matte highlights out there that will still give you a gorgeous glow. My favorite matte blush is the Bobbi Brown blush in Sand Pink. It’s such a gorgeous color that suites many different skin tones! A great matte drugstore blush is the Wet N Wild Color Icon Blush in the shade Mellow Wine. It’s so pigmented and blends like a dream!
