How to Make the Best Iced Matcha Latte Ever

Lifestyle
iced matcha recipe

Hi everyone, Alana here! I’m new to the SimplySona editorial team and am super excited to be working with Sona and the blog. Much like Sona, I LOVE having an AM routine. Every morning I start my day off with my homemade, iced matcha that I bring to the office to sip on while I catch up on emails. But guys…I just found out the team thought I was drinking green juice every morning! Of course, the next day I brought a big batch of my secret iced matcha latte recipe and I think I’ve totally converted the whole team.

My obsession with matcha is going on 3 years now, and so I kind of think of myself as a matcha connoisseur. Did you know that 1 serving of matcha=10 cups of regular green tea? It’s so amazing because it gives you energy, speeds up your metabolism and even helps with anxiety. I love it because it keeps me energized all day long without jitters or an afternoon crash.

After much trial and error, trying tons of powders and testing different sweeteners, I’ve finally nailed the perfect iced matcha latte. No really, nothing compares to my homemade recipe and I’ve tried matcha all over! I’m super excited to share my recipe and can’t believe over 90% of you guys voted on Sona’s Instagram for a blog post with the recipe!

So, let’s get to it!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Bamboo Whisk
  • Small bowl
  • 1 scoop (around 1- 1.5 tsp) ceremonial grade matcha powder (I use DoMatcha – 70 servings!!)
  • 8 oz unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or other non-dairy milk)
  • ¼ cup hot, but not boiling water
  • 1 cup of ice
  • Optional: 1 tsp of agave (you can also swap for honey or stevia) + more or less depending on your preference
  • Optional: vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS:

STEP 1:

Heat your water on the stove on medium till it’s around 170°F. (Make sure not to boil it or you’ll burn your matcha!)

STEP 2:

Add one heaping scoop of matcha to a bowl and then add 2 tbsp of the water over the matcha.

STEP 3:

Whisk your matcha-water mixture in a quick “W” motion until it starts to form a paste. Slowly add the rest of the water.

STEP 4:

If using a sweetener (I’m using agave), add it to the mixture and whisk to combine.

Pour your almond milk (I used unsweetened vanilla) over ice.

Add the matcha mixture to the glass (If it’s too strong, add a bit more almond milk!)

STEP 7:

Stir and enjoy!

So there you guys go! Matcha has seriously changed my life and there’s just something about performing this little Japanese ceremony that makes me excited to start my day!

Have I convinced you guys to swap your morning coffee for matcha? Let me know what you guys think!

Xx,

Alana

Love it! I usually use soy milk and am getting a bit tired of it. Luckily today I seen this just in time and used vanilla almond milk too! Yumm, Thanks girl!

    • ReplyAlanaFebruary 26, 2018 at 3:07 pm

Vanilla almond milk is my personal fav, but I’ve also seen that some people even use cashew milk!
It kinda just depends on what your preference is, but I’m so glad you got to spice it up with the almond milk today!

Love the recipe pretty basic and simple to make. The trick is finding a matcha that you like and sticking to it. A quick note on the plastic cups… why buy plastic when u can purchase a reusable cup? So many brands offer reusable cups not to mention Starbucks….. Let’s start thinking of our sustainable future and change the pendulum and think before we purchase plastic ….. just a thought.

Well first of all I would like to say welcome Alana you are very lucky to be working with our fav girl Sona…. you have shared your recipe and I’m soooo thankful since I have known about the good benefits of this tea, I have bought it and didn’t really like it, however I do love the one from Starbucks (iced green tea latte) they use matcha…. anyway… I cannot wait to try your recipe! I have a feeling it’s gonna be like the one from Starbucks but obviously BETTER! Love from NJ.

Omg one serving is equal to 10 cup’s of green tea. ?? I love green tea so much. Here in Pakistan there’s a special form of it called “Kashmiri tea”. I love it. It is served hot, pink in color and tastes so delicious. ❤️ Can’t wait to try Matcha. It is making feel crazy about it. It’s green color is so catchy. ?
