Sona Selects May Hair Edition

hair, sona selects

The post you’ve all been asking for is finally here! THE HAIR POST! I’ve saved all your questions from the past month or so and decided to write a detailed post about my haircare routine and all the products I’m loving. From my favorite shampoo and conditioner, to how many times a week I wash my hair, to whose been styling my hair in LA, it’s all here!

Brown hair highlights blogger

CLEAN

When it comes to washing my hair, I typically wash it twice a week, sometimes three times if I’ve been working out a lot. My current favorite shampoo and conditioner is the Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampo and Conditioner, which are both very gentle on my color-treated hair. I love it because it adds moisture and volume without drying out my frizz-prone hair. I also like the Living Proof No Frizz line, which is a bit more affordable! In between washes, I use the IGK Jet Lag Invisible Dry Shampoo to keep my hair looking clean.

PROTECT

Fried hair ain’t cute. Seriously, protecting your hair is an absolute MUST. I like to use a nourishing hair mask (loving this Moroccanoil one) at least once a week to repair and return moisture to my hair.  Before blow drying I make sure to use a heat protectant like this one from Kerastase to protect my hair and control frizz. I have pretty dry hair, so after styling it I always use a hair oil to add shine and tame flyaways. My favorites right now are the Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil and the Ouai Hair Oil!

STYLE

First, tools. My favorite brush is the Wet Brush. It’s inexpensive and is great at detangling my hair after I shower. I love my Harry Josh Ultra Light Dryer because it dries my hair super quickly without making my arm feel like it’s going to fall off! It’s pricey, so for a more affordable one I like Conair one. To style my hair, I love the T3 straightener and loose waves wand. After styling my hair, my go-to product is the IGK Beach Club Texture Spray. It adds the perfect amount of volume and texture for that undone Kim K hair. I tend not to use a lot of other styling products like hair spray or mouses because my scalp is very sensitive and too much product can give me a headache!

COLOR & CUT

I’ve been getting tons and tons of questions about my hair color and cut, so here are all the deets. I have a round face, so I don’t like layering my hair. Instead I ask for a blunt cut, keeping it texturized at the bottom. I also ask for longer bangs to frame and contour my face. My base color is a dark-medium brown and I get thin highlights on about half of my hair to make it look sunkissed.

These are the geniuses behind my hair:

Color/Cut: @morganparks901

Cut/Style: @nicolasfloreshair

Your hair looks soo good, very sun kissed and natural, loving the length as well.

  • ReplyLouise SharpyMay 9, 2018 at 10:52 am

I love and want your hair. Mine is fine and straight. I love the L’Oreal Total Repair line. My hair is so soft and shiney (for me) I hate static. I can’t use a lot of product , it weighs it down. I only color roots , and whole head once a year. I need more tho. Thanks for sharing. So so pretty and the color just right -#24HourClub

I am going to try the dry shampoo and hair spray. I have a difficult time finding the perfect ones because my hair is so thin and usually the products weigh down my hair… but since it seems like these products are very light, they might just work out. :) PS Your new hair color gives me life, perfect with your Cali Glow flow you have created! LOVES ♥

You don’t use a purple or blue shampoo? Or do you just get your hair recolored whenever its been 6 weeeks? I recently dyed my hair balayage and need tips on maintaining the color. My hair dresser told me to get the brass off from matrix. I used it once I think it made a diffference lol

  • ReplyGrisMay 9, 2018 at 4:07 pm
